![]() ![]() To play the games, use Reicast's file browsing system to locate them on your phone's memory. ![]() You'll be able to spot the game files because they will have ".cdi" at the end of them. These files will most likely come in compressed form, so you'll need to extract them before they can be read by the emulator. Select 'File' and then select the VMU, then 'Delete All (memory reset)'.Īgain, we're not going to list the places online where you can download Dreamcast titles (you'll have to do a bit of detective work yourself, we're afraid). This will display the front-end of the Dreamcast operating system - the same thing you'd see on a proper Dreamcast console if you booted it up without a disc in the drive. To clear the "virtual" VMU, select the 'Boot BIOS' option from the main Reicast menu. When you eventually load up a game, you'll be told that your VMU is full and save data cannot be written. This is where you'll want to dump your BIOS and flash files. Then, create another folder within that called "Data". You'll know it by the name "dc_flash.bin".Ī folder isn't automatically created in Reicast for you to store things in, so go to the root of your SD card and create a folder called "DC". The flash file - which simulates the Dreamcast console's VMU memory card for game data storage - is usually found wherever BIOS files are available. Don't worry, though: simply rename the file and it should work. Many of the ones available online, however, are named "dc_bios.bin". The Dreamcast BIOS - which is required to actually boot the emulator - should be pretty easy to find online if you look in the right places.įor Reicast to work, the BIOS need to be titled "dc_boot.bin". When you open it for the first time, you'll be told that you're missing a BIOS file.ĭon't fret: simply move onto the next step. Simply go to this page and download the emulator itself. We tested the Reicast emulator on a Google Nexus 5 and Nvidia Shield, and found performance was excellent.ĭownload Reicast from the Google Play Store While the developer of Reicast says a 1GHz CPU is required to run its emulator, we found that phones with quad-core processors are best suited to the 'task'. DS3 and Shield confirmed working. You'll need a pretty nippy device to make the most out of this emulator. You're stuck with default Android mapping. The emulator HAS PARTIAL controller support, but NO options to configura it. So i guess the emu needs to be optimized a bit more, as now it can easily be the bottleneck of itself. If i downscale the resolution from 1200p to 720p i observe a few fps gain, but its very very marginal. Ne32gb, 545mhz GPU/1944mhz CPU x4 (Faux kernel). After you choose the character it crashes the emulator. Dead or Alive 2 LE: partially working, gfx appear to be ok. Soul Calibur: works, some gfx glitches, almost fullspeed. Daytona 2001: works, some gfx glitches, almost fullspeed. If you want to save your game, just boot bios, format the VMUs and setup your options. The emulator seems to like GDI's instead of CDI's more. ![]() Game compatibility is pretty decent, some games wont work thought (DoA 2 LE doesnt, im sad ) The emulator runs with some kind of frameskip (i guess) that automatically "tries" to reach 60fps even if the game slows down. The emulator HAS NO controller support, NO options. So far each game i tested shows some sort of problem. Emulation of graphics is glitchy, so dont get upset if you see flickering, missing things or geometry. The emu is very primitive, so dont expect miracles, but also it looks lika a beta instead of an alpha. Put required files in there (should be two, the bios and the flash) Create a folder called DC in the root of your tablet/phone internal memory with a file manager of your choice then inside it, create a DATA folder. Ok, a small recap of whats the current state: ![]()
